  • The Charitable IRA Rollover allows individuals over age 70½ to directly transfer up to $100,000 per year from an IRA account to Upstream, without incurring income or estate tax on the withdrawal. (Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015)

    This is good news for people who want to make a charitable gift during their lifetime from their retirement assets, but have been discouraged from doing so because of the income tax penalty.

    The Charitable IRA Rollover is now a permanent provision. It was signed into law in December 2015.

    Taxpayers must contact their IRA administrators if they intend to take advantage of the tax-free distribution. IRA administrators may require several weeks to process rollovers. Contact Julie Lamy at julie@upstreamsolutions.org for more information.
